Support Available
In Derbyshire, once a school has registered a request to be involved with the programme, it will be assigned an adviser who will support the school throughout the process. This support remains available to the school after gaining National Healthy School Status.
The level of support the adviser provides is up to the school: the adviser will respond to requests, and offer advice and assistance tailored to meet the school’s needs.
Infant Buddy Training provided in schools.
Generally speaking schools already cover many of the criteria required, and so the school’s adviser, along with the audit, can help to identify what criteria may still need to be met, discuss the priorities for the school and help to draw up an action plan. The adviser can also help to enlist the support of staff, pupils, parents and governors, and to assist in finding sources of external support to help the school, if appropriate.
Healthy Schools advisers may also help identify any additional funding a school may be able to access. Occasionally the programme also has access to small amounts of money to provide grants for schools. Information about these will be posted on the website, and also in the ‘Healthy Herald’ newsletter.
