Extending and Enhancing the School Council
School Councils and pupil participation in the life and development of schools are now well-established features of our schools. A recent questionnaire has shown that over 95% of schools across Derbyshire have a school council or its equivalent, which is something we can be really proud of.
One of the things to come from that survey is that many schools are now looking to ways in which they can take the process of pupil participation further and extend the work and involvement of the school council.
The Healthy School’s guidelines offer suggested ways in which this can be done.
If you would like any support with that process please contact:David Holmes Tel: 01246 514353 Mobile: 07810813728 david.holmes@derbyshirecountypct.nhs.uk.
The team can help in a variety of ways including:
• Assisting staff and governors to explore ways in which school councils can be involved in school life.• Assisting the school community to re-vitalise and value the school council.• Working with the school council to develop their skills and so enhance their effectiveness.
