Emotional Health and Wellbeing Guidance
Emotional Health and Well Being is the foundation for general well being and learning. As children and young people progress through school their social and emotional development happens through a variety of ways including the acquisition of knowledge, understanding, technical skills and intelligence.
Schools can help children and young people’s social and emotional development by encouraging them to reflect upon or improve their ability to interpret a social situation and make sense of what is going on.
The Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) has produced a whole school teaching resource; Social and Emotional Aspects of learning (SEAL) for Primary and Secondary Schools.
National Healthy Schools Standard (NHSS) criteria encourages working to create an environment where emotional health and well being is supported through initiatives such as circle time, pastoral support and whole school behaviour management.
