This course is for any colleagues working in secondary schools

Overview
Stand up for us- Challenging Homophobia in Schools  (DfES 2004) asks the question:

What are the benefits to schools of tackling homophobic bullying?

 Improved behaviour, attendance and educational achievement
 A culture and ethos that promote the emotional health and well-being of the whole school community
 Compliance with legal, curricular and Ofsted requirements.

This course helps to create an understanding of homophobic culture in our schools and how to challenge it.

Course Contents
Participants will have the opportunity to:

 gain an understanding of the importance of a whole school approach
 explore their own awareness and attitudes
 look at the true levels of homophobic name calling in Derbyshire’s secondary schools
 examine practical strategies
 identify appropriate resources to support the curriculum.
