 Why Participate?

The National Healthy Schools Programme builds on the existing work taking place in schools.  The four core themes of the programme aim to build on current practice and promote PSHE, physical activity, healthy eating and emotional health and well-being to students, staff and parents.

Evidence from the NHSP shows that schools who are engaged in the programme are making improvements at a faster rate than schools nationally, including the quality of PSHE, management of behaviour and support of children and young people.

Children and young people benefit from the programme through increased confidence and self-esteem, a greater sense of achievement, the feeling that they are less likely to be bullied,  and a sense of greater motivation and  of being involved and listened to in matters regarding the school.

Training courses are available for staff

Staff report a greater of sense of being valued, increased confidence, and value the support and guidance they receive.

Parents and careers benefit from more effective liaison with schools.

Gaining National Healthy School Status also provides evidence of how the school is contributing to the Every Child Matters five outcomes for children.

The audit process also assists schools in evidencing for their Ofsted Self-Evaluation Form (SEF) and completing the new school profile.
